About this tool
How a provider is identified
Every domain publishes MX records naming the hosts that receive its mail, and the hosts give the provider away. aspmx.l.google.com or smtp.google.com means Google Workspace; something ending in mail.protection.outlook.com means Microsoft 365 (Exchange Online); mx.zoho.com is Zoho Mail; pphosted.com is Proofpoint, a security gateway usually sitting in front of Microsoft or Google at larger companies; mimecast.com, barracudanetworks.com and messagelabs.com are other gateways. Consumer domains are recognised directly: gmail.com, outlook.com, yahoo.com, icloud.com and proton.me. Verifyre knows about 30 providers and gateways and labels anything else self-hosted, which usually means a company or hosting-panel mail server.
What this tool shows
Enter a domain or an address. The tool resolves the MX records, names the provider, and shows the exchangers in priority order so you can see the evidence. It also reports whether the domain is a free mailbox provider or a disposable one, and whether SPF and DMARC records are published, which together give a quick picture of how seriously the domain takes email.
Why the provider matters
For verification, the provider determines what a mailbox check can learn. Google Workspace and most self-hosted servers answer honestly to RCPT TO. Consumer Outlook.com accepts every recipient and bounces later. Yahoo refuses mailbox checks entirely. Gateways such as Proofpoint often accept at the edge and reject afterwards, which makes a domain look catch-all. Verifyre uses the provider to pick the right strategy and to label results honestly as risky or unverifiable rather than guessing.
For sending, segmenting a list by provider is one of the simplest deliverability tactics. Google, Microsoft and Yahoo each run their own reputation systems with different throttles, so warming up one provider at a time, or spacing a large send by provider, keeps any single system from seeing a sudden spike. Provider is a column in every Verifyre export and a field in every API response, so the segmentation is already done for you.
