Role account detector
Spot info@, sales@, support@ and 80 other function addresses in a list, so shared inboxes stay out of your marketing sends.
About this tool
What a role account is
A role-based address belongs to a function, not a person: info@, sales@, support@, billing@, admin@, hr@, careers@, press@, webmaster@, postmaster@, noreply@ and so on. It is read by a team, by whoever is on shift, or by nobody at all. Verifyre maintains a list of around 80 such prefixes plus patterns for the no-reply family (noreply, do-not-reply, bounce, mailer-daemon), and matches them case-insensitively against the local part, ignoring plus tags.
Why role accounts hurt deliverability
Nobody consented at a role address. The person who typed sales@acme.com into your form may have left the company, and the people who read that inbox now did not ask for your newsletter. Shared inboxes are also where the most aggressive spam filtering lives, because they receive the most unsolicited mail, and they are the addresses most often used for spam traps and complaint-rate monitoring. Many email service providers refuse to import role addresses at all or flag them as high risk. Engagement is low, complaints are high, and a complaint rate above 0.3% is enough to get a domain throttled by Gmail under the 2024 bulk sender rules.
When role addresses are fine
B2B transactional mail, invoices to billing@, support replies and press outreach to press@ are exactly what those inboxes exist for. The problem is marketing automation: welcome flows, newsletters and promotions sent to an address that represents a department. A good policy is to allow role addresses in transactional and one-to-one flows, exclude them from marketing lists, and ask for a personal address during sign-up when the product is for an individual.
Using the detector
Paste up to 100 addresses. Each row is flagged as role or personal, with free-provider and disposable notes alongside, and the table can be copied as CSV. Role detection is also part of every verification: the email checker, bulk cleaner and API all return checks.role, and the form widget can be configured to decline role addresses inline for consumer sign-ups.
